Two schools from an Eastern Cape township put many of South Africa's top private and public schools to shame when they were listed among 20 institutions that produced the highest percentage of distinctions in maths.
Soqhayisa Senior Secondary School in Motherwell, Gqeberha, was placed second on the list while Motherwell High School came in at number 20.
A total of 34 of the 65 candidates at Soqhayisa Senior Secondary School, who wrote the National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams in 2023, bagged distinctions in maths while 13 of the 37 pupils, who sat for the subject at Motherwell High, achieved this honour.
