The vice-chancellor of the University of South Africa (Unisa), Professor Puleng LenkaBula, has maintained the relationship with Higher Education, Science and Innovation Minister Blade Nzimande was not strained.
On Thursday, LenkaBula and the university's management hosted a media briefing to address the developments at the institution.
The university management and Nzimande have been involved in a legal battle after he placed the university under administration, disregarding an interdict it had obtained, stopping him from putting it under administration.
