  • A University of Free State student was allegedly kidnapped by two men travelling in a car with a Lesotho registration number.
  • The two allegedly robbed her of her phone, OOPT electric - which is some  kind of software that students use for their studies - as well as her bank card.
  • The suspects allegedly dropped her outside campus after the robbery.

Police have opened a kidnapping and armed robbery cases after a 19-year-old University of Free State student was allegedly abducted and robbed, before being dropped outside campus by her attackers.

Free State police say they were now on the lookout for a silver Toyota Yaris with Lesotho registration number plates, as allegations were that it was the one used in the crime.

Provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Motantsi Makhele said the victim said she had been walking alone on Wednesday around 18:05 on Nelson Mandela Drive, when a silver Toyota Yaris suddenly pulled up next to her. A man on the passenger side pointed a firearm at her and instructed her to get into the vehicle.

"The second suspect, who was a white male, then drove off. The two suspects then robbed the victim of her Huawei P8, OOPT electric [sic] and a bank card. They then dropped her at the entrance of University of the Free State. A case of kidnapping and armed robbery was opened at Parkweg Police Station. 

"Any member of the public who might have information that can help the police to arrest the suspects can contact Sergeant Mvula Khene at 076 7578 241. Information can also be submitted on MySAPS App or call 08600 10111," said Makhele.
