President Cyril Ramaphosa said "a lot is being done" to address the surge of violent crimes in Nelson Mandela Bay, which has become notorious for kidnappings and almost daily murders.

The president, accompanied by Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane and Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi, kicked off his weekend-long ANC campaign rally with a Boy Child and Girl Child Dialogue at the Feather Market Centre in Gqeberha on Saturday, where more than a thousand spectators gave him a cheerful welcome.
