A fire that broke out in the Mkholombe informal settlement near Port Shepstone destroyed about 11 dwellings on Monday, leaving almost 50 people homeless.
In a statement, EMS spokesperson Robert Mckenzie said fire fighters from the Hibiscus Coast Fire and Rescue Department responded to the fire along with paramedics.
“The blaze had spread to several adjacent dwellings, completely destroying about 11 dwellings and partially burning several others. Fortunately, everyone managed to escape ... and no one was injured in the fire.
