LOAD SHEDDING: Here's how to protect your electronics & appliances

accreditation
South Africa will be plunged into darkness over the summer months as Eskom conducts maintenance on their power plants. Plugged-in appliances and electronics are at risk of damage from power surges during this time.

We're joined in studio by Christelle Fourie, Managing Director of MUA Insurance Acceptances, who says consumers need to take proactive steps to mitigate the risk of possible damage as a result of electricity cuts.

"As loadshedding is here to stay, it is up to homeowners to take the necessary steps in order to reduce their risk of financial loss caused by blackouts, including ensuring that they have adequate insurance cover in place."

Fourie describes a recent incident where a power surge resulted in a R700 000 sound system claim in Cape Town. Watch.
