The United States cannot afford to bring South Africa "to its knees", International Relations and Cooperation Minister Naledi Pandor said on Friday.

The relationship is important to both countries, she wrote in an op-ed in the British Financial Times, making recent US legislative developments "disconcerting".

The US House of Representatives is currently considering a Bill that would require the administration of President Joe Biden to report on whether SA undermines American interests, in light of its close relations with Russia and China, and its approach to Israel's war in Gaza.
