In light of Africa Day, News24 Live met with a group of foreign nationals who recently participated in the Community Chest Amandla! Project. This entrepreneurial development project provides a portable solar power device which enables one to generate income in townships and rural communities in South Africa (especially during the current energy crisis). Watch.
In partnership with Scalabrini Centre, the Community Chest hosted a luncheon to celebrate their achievements, Unity in Africa and embracing diversity in South Africa amidst the recent xenophobic attacks.
The lightweight, portable device, which is charged through two solar panels, provides 50 hours of power. Included in the package are two bright LED lights, a USB-driven fan, a pair of hair clippers, and a multi-device cellphone charging cable. It is easily transported and instantly ready for set up at any location. An aspiring entrepreneur now has the ability to generate an income by opening up a barbershop, and/or selling cellphone charging time anywhere in the community, to name a few business ideas.
