On Monday Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula announced that Athletics South Africa (ASA), Cricket South Africa (CSA), Netball South Africa (NSA) and the South African Rugby Union (SARU) are suspended from bidding for or hosting major international events due to them not meeting their transformation targets.
Mbalulu made the announcement during the release of the Eminent Persons Group on Transformation in Sport in Pretoria. News24 caught up with the Minister after the announcement for further comment.
"I will review this decision when considering the results of the 2016/2017 Transformation Barometer," he said at the announcement. The bidding/ hosting ban will even affect international tournaments like the Rugby Championship, according to his comments above. Watch.
