Will The Voice of Africa be Silenced Henceforth?
Voting is like choosing you favorite mosquito out of a swarm, but when Jacob Zuma emerged from the dust to become the Republics 4th democratically elected president on 18 December 2007, the once prominent African National Congress become the largest farce in the history of South African mosquito politics. The diligent labors of the once proud founders of the African National Congress, to ensure a heritage of excellence for a people oppressed by 46 years of minority rule, was in an instant laid to waste on 7 May 2014, when the legacy of a man who continued his walk for freedom in 1962 for a further 27 more years from the confines of a cold and barren prison cell, succumbed to a deeply rooted loyalty of staunchly bred ANC supporters towards a man, who in 2005 was charged with rape, who fought a lengthy legal battle over allegations of racketeering and corruption and who in 2014 once again became the subject of gross mismanagement…
Defying Mandela’s Legacy for South Africa our Land
In defiance of corruption and education South Africans spoke and in defiance of joblessness enlaced with crime forsaken the past; forsaking a man ancestral to the pains of liberty’s scars. He who boldly declared our country’s major challenges to be those of crime and of joblessness and of corruption.
Rest now Madiba, for at her call you did not falter – your dream abated through the hands of those your struggles freed. For very soon indeed I see all those whom you have freed, in desperate protestation, all bashing through our streets… again.
The End is Nigh…?
As the night blossoms into the dawn on the 9th of May 2014 with elections 2014 lingering in the past, the bleak prospects of democracy’s queues on 7 May 2014 brings home a sense of an imminent end to a legacy born from the talons of segregation. The official abolishing of apartheid occurred in 1991 with repeal of the last of the remaining apartheid laws; the end of apartheid is widely regarded as arising from the 1994 democratic general elections; arising from the 2014 democratic general elections we once again see a passage of segregation in the making; an attempt of a government to segregate itself from its people.
While an apartheid rule left her victims scarred and scabbed, a path of rebuke was opened with a referendum on 17 March 1992 asking white voters if they were in favour of ending apartheid. The result of the election was an overwhelming “yes”, which ultimately resulted in apartheid being lifted.
While a rule since 18 December 2007 left her victims scathed and battered and on financial paths of ruin, passages left open for rebuke are attempted hastily shut by implementing various tactics, predominantly with a Maharaj run propaganda machine currently making headlines.
In Qunu one Sleeps … In Nkandla one Lazes
Buried in a sombre graveyard not far from his R28.2m Qunu home, Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela sleeps in silence, unbeknownst whilst in blissful peace, that at the end of that 549km stretch towards Kwazula “Nkandla” Natal, boasts a kraal lined in glitz and glamour; its proprietor implicated in misleading his parliament; confidently having delved into the coffers of the state to fund a lifestyle of extravagance and frill; and in that kraal, surrounded by chickens and goats, concubines and cows, basks a man in lassitude, fortified at fire pools edge.
