The public has voted and the South African National Parks (SANParks) announced the overall and category winners of their Annual Photo Competition that shows off South African nature's best side.

Every year, the conservation authority hosts a competition that gives the Parks’ visitors a chance to showcase the spectacular moments they've captured while enjoying our country's natural splendour.

“The competition caters for everyone - whether you are an avid photographer with specialised camera equipment or you prefer to capture your experiences with your mobile phone,” says SANParks, encouraging its Parks’ visitors to showcase their sightings at the national parks.

The first prize winner receives a 2018 Toyota Landcruiser 76, second prize free fuel from Total South Africa for one year valued at R24 000 and third prize two nights’ accommodation for two at a national park of your choice.

Category winners each won a free fuel card to the value of R500, a Wild Card and other goodies hampers.

The competition consists of two divisions - namely DSLR and Compact/Mobile Camera - and each with the same four categories:

  • Fauna & Flora - wildlife activity, animal portraits, birds, insects, flowers, trees, etc.
  • Landscapes - includes seascapes, mountains and viewpoints.
  • Lifestyle - families, couples, youth and people engaging in park activities.
  • Photo stories - a series of three to five images, telling a story of an event, activity or sighting within a national park.
