Katsina - The Federal Government has earmarked N538 million for the rehabilitation of two dams in Kankia and Kusada Local Government Areas of Katsina State.

Ahmad Babba , representing Kankia/Kusada/Ingawa constituency in the House of Representatives, disclosed this to newsmen on Sunday in Kankia, Katsina State.

Babba said that Kankia dam would gulp N125 million while Kusada dam would cost N413 million.

He said that the two dams were among the 241 dams that would be rehabilitated by the Federal Government this year across the 36 states of the federation.

According to him, N60 billion was appropriated in the 2012 budget for the rehabilitation of dams out of which N39 billion had already been released to undertake the project in some parts of the country.

The lawmaker, therefore, urged the Federal Government to release funds for the rehabilitation of the remaining dams.

He said that the project would help to address the shortage of drinking water, enhance farming activities and thereby improve socio-economic activities across the country.
