NFF executives reaffirm confidence in Magari

2012-08-02 17:02
Abuja -  The Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) on Thursday in Abuja  restated its confidence in the administration headed by its President, Aminu Maigari.

The Association’s Chairman of Media and Publicity Committee, Emeka Inyama spoke for the members against a story published by a national daily and a national sports paper on Aug. 2.

The affirmation was contained in a press statement signed by NFA’s media officer, Ademola Olajire, describing the reported story as “baseless insinuations garnished with spurious quotes from anonymous sources”.

``The Executive Committee has total confidence in Aminu Maigari and how the NFA is being run.

``That is why the results are coming with the qualification of all our Women National Teams for major competitions this year, and the progress that the Super Eagles and the Flying Eagles have made in their own African Cup qualification campaigns.

``We would have expected the reporter to speak with either the Chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee or the Secretary, who is also the Chief Media Officer, on such a sensitive and delicate matter.

``The truth is that Board meetings are not a monthly affair; it is held quarterly. The reporter is simply crying more than the bereaved, because this Board has held so many regular and emergency meetings since coming on board. No member is complaining.

``There is peace in Nigeria football and nothing is threatening it. The reporter is the only one imagining and hoping for crisis, but there won’t be any,'' Inyama said.

The Chairman, who doubles as the Chairman of the Nigeria National League (NNL), dismissed as idle talk the suggestion about the Reconciliation Committee not working.

``I am the Chairman of the Reconciliation Committee and I did not complain to anybody about being left out of any meeting. We are working behind the scene and we know what we have been able to achieve.

``What the NFA needs at this period that we are preparing for success in so many competitions and crucial qualification matches is the support and prayers of Nigerians, not divisive comments and dark insinuations and innuendoes by people who only want to see conflicts and crises.

``Football is a serious business and the members of the Board are serious persons who get in touch with the President and other top officials, and are fully aware of everything that is happening. We will hold meetings when we want to hold meetings,'' he said.
