Veerbootongeluk: Soektog na vermistes afgelas

Zanzibar – 'n Amptenaar in Tanzanië het Saterdag gesê owerhede het die soektog na vermiste passasiers van 'n oorlaaide veerboot, wat vandeesweek omgeslaan het, afgelas.

'n Woordvoerder vir die regering, Ali Juma Shamhuna, het gesê finale syfers wys dat 69 mense in die voorval omgekom het en 77 steeds vermis word, wat beteken dat 'n totaal van 146 passasiers vermoedelik dood is.

Shamhuna het gesê die MV Skagit-veerboot, wat Woensdag omgeslaan het toe dit vanaf Dar-es-Salaam na Zanzibar onderweg was, was met sowat 41 passasiers oorlaai.

Hy het gesê 145 mense is gered.

In September verlede jaar is meer as 200 mense dood toe 'n oorlaaide veerboot naby Zanzibar gesink het.
