Bendegeweld in Wes-Kaap neem toe

Kaapstad – Minstens 23 mense is die afgelope ses weke dood in bendegeweld in die Wes-Kaap, is Vrydag berig.

Die Cape Times het berig dat Lavender Hill en Hanover Park, op die Kaapse Vlakte, is tans die middelpunt van bendegeweld, met 17 sterftes binne ses weke.

Dan Plato, die LUR vir gemeenskapsveiligheid, het gesê nadat hy met al twee gemeenskappe ontmoet het, is dit duidelik dat jong inwoners meer aandag nodig het omdat hulle by bendes aansluit of by skietery betrokke raak.

"Ons wil probeer verhoed dat hulle by bendes aansluit... Ek weet van 14- en 15-jariges wat drie aanklagte van poging tot moord teen hulle het," het hy aan die koerant gesê.

Plato glo deur met bendes te praat is die beste manier om inligting te kry, hoewel sommige hom hieroor kritiseer.
