Phones replace dummies

What do you do if your baby is crying? You distract them with something, right? Well, the object of distraction is very often bottle or breast, but there’s an increasing trend for moms to hand their crying baby a smart phone to play with- so much so that more moms give their babies smartphones than they do dummies, according to research findings.

Of a group of mothers polled, one in four moms said they handed over their phones to their crying babies in order to distract them, and 10% said that their babies were allowed to play with the phones for up to two hours.

These telephonic tots outnumber bottle babies, too: 27% of moms allow their babies to play with their phones, whilst only 25% of moms still prefer to use the bottle as the primary distraction.

The death of dummies?

Amongst the same group of moms polled, only 9% said they use dummies to keep their babies distracted and prevent them from crying.

One of the main reasons for the switch to technology is that there are many applications which can keep even a baby entertained while mom gets to keep her sanity.

The researchers did not release any figures about how many smartphones fall victim to trauma and baby spit.

Note: Cellphones contain small parts which may be harmful for your baby.

How do you keep your crying or bored baby distracted?
