How to deal with PDAs

A couple on a Florida beach seemed to be in their own world as they fondled each other and then engaged in sex in front of other beach-goers including families with children, according to MyFox.

You're not alone...

Gobsmacked onlookers couldn’t believe their eyes when the 20-year-old waitress and the 39-year-old fitness trainer began fondling each other and having sex, oblivious to those around them. One grandmother filmed the encounter, later handing it over to police. Another onlooker said that her 4-year-old daughter had witnessed the offensive behaviour, said the Smoking Gun.

The pair were arrested and charged with lewd and lascivious behaviour.

There is such a thing as too much sex

Over the past few decades society has become increasingly immune to sexual imagery in the media: music videos, TV series and fashion shoots depict far more flesh than, say, 30 years ago.

While many of parents are able to ignore public displays of affection, some young couples forget that progressing from holding hands or kissing in public to groping private parts or engaging in sexual activity can present an awkward, if not shocking experience for children who may witness it. While PDAs (public displays of affection) are fine, sexual activity is obviously inappropriate.

"Cover your eyes!"

Although there are some laws locally which exist to prevent couples having sex in public, there’s always a chance that you may see such behaviour while with your children.

You may wonder what to say to children in the event of this happening, but most kids get embarrassed even at the sight of seeing adults kissing. You can talk to your children and ask them what they think they saw and respond to their questions in terms they can understand.

Of course, you should monitor the content of TV shows, movies, music videos and video games and adhere to recommended age limits to avoid your kids being exposed to sexual imagery.

How would you respond if you saw a heated PDA while with your kids?
