Halloween movies for kids

accreditation

Halloween isn’t as big a holiday here as in America, so why not have a Halloween Movie Scream Fest, to celebrate. Here are some flicks from the not so scary for the younger crowd to blood curdling frightening for teens.

Pooh's Heffalump Halloween Movie (Toddler)

It’s Lumpy’s first Halloween in the Hundred Acre Woods. All the lovable characters are back and up to their antics, Pooh eats all the candy, Tigger scares the kids and Roo and Lumpy decide to find the Gobloon before he finds them.

It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (Pre school)

The classic TV special has come to DVD. the Peanuts gang celebrates Halloween while Linus waits for the Great Pumpkin and Charlie Brown is invited to a Halloween party.  A great way to introduce some Halloween watching for the younger kids.

Nightmare before Christmas (School)

Jack Skellington, the King of Halloween Town is bored with his lot and discovers Christmas town and decides that he could do it better. Watch as Halloween takes over Christmas in this fun yet scary classic.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkhaban  (School)

The first of the Harry Potter series that really made me skrik! The Dementors are really frightening and this movie is a Halloween treat. Watch as Harry tries to figure out why Sirius Black is after him and what the strange visions he sees when the Dementors attack him really mean. There's nothing like a little magic to complete Halloween.

Gremlins (School & Teen)

Don’t feed them after midnight and DON’T get them wet. It’s a classic movie that every child should have the pleasure of watching. It’s your duty to pass the legacy on. Also, the Gremlin singing “New York, New York” is a favourite.

Corpse Bride (School & Teen)

Another Tim Burton creation about a groom who the eve of his wedding inadvertently becomes the husband of the Corpse Bride in the Underworld. Join Victor as he tries to get back to his own world and his own bride.

Sweeny Todd (Teen)

Tim Burton being the king of all things creepy and surreal brings Sweeny Todd to life. This movie is for mature teens as there is a fair amount of blood and gore. For 16 years and older only! The fun thing about this grim story about a man looking for revenge is that it’s a musical.

The Addams Family (School)

An unusual family to say the least, Addams Family are Halloween. Gomez, Morticia, the children, Cousin It and of course Lurch bring fun to TVscreen. The story is not particularly scary and school aged kids should get a kick out of it.

Coraline (School & Teen)

Neil Gaimen’s, Coraline comes to life in 3D. It’s about a little girl who feels ignored by her parents and finds her way into an alternate universe where she finds her Other Parents. They are the complete opposite of her real parents but look exactly like them, except for the button eyes. Coraline has to fight them to get her real parents back and get back to her own world.

Whatever you decide to watch, make sure it won’t be too scary for the little ones. Enjoy the screams!
