'My child is not a baby goat!'

Does the word "kid" offend you?

Baby goat

Life can be a little overwhelming at times. That's why we decided to make this Keep Calm and Hug Your Kid poster which we put on Facebook.

We were a little shocked when the first comment on the post was 'A "KID" is the offspring of a goat! You need to change this, it is offensive to good parents who raise their CHILDREN correctly!'. Does that mean that people who refer to their children as 'kid' are not good parents?

We have never thought of the word 'kid' as offensive before so we asked our Twitter followers what they thought.

There was a huge response and many thought the whole situation was rather silly. Here are a few of their replies.

I think some folks have assumed a culture, of outrage at ANY perceived slight, no matter how inconsequential. @andrevr

Not a fan of the word, don't use it myself, but get why others do. Also, "child" is so clunky. @tracyengelb

As a parent your kids teach you not to sweat the small things, there's just not enough time in the day. @Nixie_Nix

I've been known to call my kids the spawn of satan and horrible monsters... @SerinaB

I don't use it much. Kidlet, I think, is a bit better (still friendly and warm) as child always seems a bit formal to me. @Nicxs77

What are your thoughts? Are you offended by the use of the word 'kid'?
