Former Proteas captain Graeme Smith hopes current skipper Temba Bavuma can move on and come back stronger from a disappointing Cricket World Cup campaign in India.

Bavuma has been under severe scrutiny during the Proteas' World Cup run after scoring only 145 runs in eight ODIs at an average of 18.12.

In the build-up to the semi-final, Bavuma's place in the starting XI was hotly debated after he picked up a hamstring injury. Despite not feeling 100%, as he himself said at the toss, Bavuma played, electing to bat and then going out for a duck in South Africa's defeat to Australia.
