The striking thing about Akani Simbine's disqualification from the 100m semi-finals at the World Championships on Sunday was the resignation to a fate which has stalked an otherwise brilliant career - a lack of major championship medals.
Simbine, whose racing has always been from the Carl Lewis school of sprinting - starting like a lawnmower and finishing like a Ferrari - was a little too quick off the blocks in the second of three semis in Budapest, returning a reaction time of 0.078sec. While the irony would have taken him by surprise, the all-too familiar end result from his disqualification won't have.
