Athletics South Africa (ASA) has invested in a back-the-future strategy for the country's major championship drought, which now stretches back to the 2017 World Championships.
On Saturday, this year's world championships, which will be held in Hungarian city of Budapest, commence to the old refrain of sprinters Wayde van Niekerk (400m) and Akani Simbine (100m) still being held up as the country's medal hopes, as has been the case for the last decade.
