There was high drama in Monday night's Varsity Cup final when Tuks scored a late try to stun Maties 29-23.

The Pretoria students, who trailed 20-10 at half-time, produced an inspiring second half display to silence a packed Danie Craven Stadium crowd.

But their win proved to be controversial, as there was doubt over scrumhalf Bernard van der Linde's decisive late try.

It was set up by a brilliant break from inside his own half by fullback Stefan Coetzee, but on replays it appeared as though his pass to Van der Linde was forward.

However, television match official Egon Seconds decided it was "not clear and obvious" to disallow the try.
