Cape Town City striker Fagrie Lakay is working hard to realise his dream of representing South Africa at the Olympic games.

The 23-year-old former Santos and SuperSport United attacker scored a goal and created a second as the under 23 side narrowly lost 3-2 to Saudi Arabia in a friendly encounter this past weekend.

Ahead of a second friendly clash on Tuesday, the in-form player expressed his gratitude to head coach David Notoane for selecting him for the two games.

Lakay made headlines when he became the youngest player to represent Bafana Bafana, as a 17-year-old in 2014.

He has struggled to hit the heights his talents deserved in recent years after a number of njuries, but at Cape Town City, the exciting front-man has come to life.

Ahead of Tuesday's clash, Lakay revealed he hopes to be in the team for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.

He told the Sowetan: "We truly believe we should have won the first game, however, that result is now all in the past. The lads are now highly motivated to push for a win this time around. We do not want to leave here without a win.

"It feels great to be back in the national setup. There are a whole lot of players who would love to be here and I am truly grateful for this opportunity. I would like to thank coach David for giving me the platform to showcase what I can offer to the team moving forward."

Lakay added: "I have been in both the U17 and U20 setups, however, I never got the opportunity to represent my nation at a major tournament because of injuries. I just want to continue working really hard and hopefully earn my place in the final Olympic squad. That is my dream."
