The 30-year-old bowled with exceptional guile and control in Friday's 61-run win against Zimbabwe, and hopes similar performances will guarantee him a regular spot in the Proteas XI.
"I hardly think about it," Phangiso said of the World Cup. "I just want to get game time, which is what most players want.
"If I play well and put the performances in, everything should take care of itself."
Phangiso's nine international appearances in the past 18 months have been sporadic, and the current tour of Zimbabwe is his first consistent run in the ODI side.
"This is probably the longest run that I have had with the team so it was important, from a confidence point of view, to do well.
"It was important to prove to myself that I can handle cricket at this level."
He is often in the shadows behind the first-choice spin option, Imran Tahir, but says the pair have formed a complementary partnership, particularly when they are both named in the starting XI.
"We played at the Titans and also at the Lions together, so we get on well together.
"We are always planning when training in the nets, talking about what we both want to achieve with our game plans," said Phangiso.
"When we bowl together, we work in partnerships and there is a lot of planning when we work together.
"I know I have been labelled more as a 'containing' bowler and [Tahir] as more of a wicket-taker.
"Those are some of the things we discuss - if I can keep it tight at one end, he is allowed to capitalise with his variations from the other end."
