Peterson called up by Proteas

Cape Town - Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Friday named Robin Peterson of the Cape Cobras as replacement for Aaron Phangiso of the Highveld Lions in the Proteas squad for the Australian section of their limited overs tour ‘Down Under’.

Phangiso has suffered a sprained finger and will be sidelined for approximately four to six weeks.

Proteas team manager, Mohammed Moosajee, explained: “Aaron sustained a Grade 2 ligament sprain of a joint of the middle finger in his left hand. The injury was sustained during a Sunfoil Series match for the Highveld Lions three weeks ago, and was aggravated during the current tour. He complained of discomfort over the last few days, and a subsequent MRI scan on Friday confirmed the severity of the injury.

“It is anticipated that he will need a recovery period of four to six weeks and will return home on Saturday to begin his recovery process.”

The Proteas will play three T20 International matches against Australia and then five ODIs against the same opponents.

“Robbie has shown impressive form for the Cobras in the One-Day Cup,” commented CSA selection convener, Andrew Hudson. “His experience will be invaluable with the World Cup just around the corner.”

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
