Cape Town – England’s Test bowling attack is better than
South Africa’s ... with off-spinner Graeme Swann the crucial difference.
So says ever-opinionated former England captain Michael
Vaughan, in what might be described as the first significant verbal salvo ahead
of their home, three-Test series against the Proteas later this year.
Vaughan, who led England to their drought-breaking, famous
Ashes recapture in 2005, took to Twitter on Tuesday – he is really prolific on
this medium, with 12,971 tweets and counting – to suggest his country still holds
the aces with ball in hand, in terms of the keenly-awaited contests between the
world’s No 1 and 2-ranked sides from late July.
“England’s bowling attack is the best in the world. Would
not swap it for any other. Not SA. Swann is the difference. Cheers,” he said.
He issued a follow-up tweet shortly afterwards saying: “My
order of the best attacks ... England, South Africa, Pakistan, Australia, West
Indies, India, New Zealand.”
And in another Tuesday missive, he said: “England’s bowlers
dominate most batting units everywhere these days.”
South Africans chewing on all this may be tempted to note
that Vaughan seemed to steer clear of his country’s batting, which has rather
let them down in recent series ...
