Dufner eager to play

Cape Town - Former US PGA champion Jason Dufner will make his competitive return from injury at this week's SPS HANDA Perth International.

The American has been out for three months with neck and shoulder injuries, which saw him miss the Ryder Cup, FedEx Cup and the defence of his US PGA Championship title.

Having committed to the tournament back in May, Dufner did not want to let down tournament organisers.

"It it has been about 11 weeks since I last played so it is getting better," he told European Tour Radio.

"It was frustrating to miss the last major, the play-offs and Ryder Cup but in the end it was probably nice to do it.

"It was nice to get my fitness and health better and I worked on one of my weaknesses which was my putting.

"I've had a couple of weeks with no pain swinging the golf club and they have told me I can't do more damage."

The event is also an important one for the European Tour regulars. The final tournament before the start of the Tour's final series, it will offer the last chance for those outside the top 78 who qualify for the series to force themselves into the reckoning.

For those further down in the Race to Dubai, it also offers the potential chance to secure their Tour cards for next year. The top 111 on the list will retain their playing privileges for next year.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
