Chad gifts gold medal to folks

Cape Town - South African swimmer Chad le Clos has gifted the gold medal he won in the 200m butterfly at the Commonwealth Games to his parents.

Le Clos, 22, retained his Commonwealth Games 200m butterfly title on Saturday in a Games record of 1:55:07.

Grant Irvine took silver for Australia, while South Africa also claimed the bronze medal thanks to Sebastien Rousseau.

After receiving his medal on Saturday night, Le Clos walked over to where his family were standing and handed his medal to his father, Bert.

Bert le Clos then hung the medal around his wife, Geraldine’s, neck.

“It was really special and unexpected. We’ll be keeping the medal,” Geraldine le Clos told Beeld.
