End of 93-year Clairwood era

Durban - After 93 years of racing at Clairwood, racegoers will see the curtain come down at the end of Saturday's meeting when the final race is run.

The racecourse was bought by Capital Property Fund in 2012, and the area will be used as a warehouse and distribution centre.

It was the only racecourse in KwaZulu-Natal with a straight track of 1200m for sprint races and it also had the best record of winning favourites.

Saturday's meeting will see some of the top apprentice jockeys from Eastern countries in action when four of the races will form a competition for them.

The main event is the Rising Sun Asian Young Guns Challenge over 1450m.

The winner of the last race will receive a trophy with the inscription on it reading "The last race".
