SASCOC, SAFA to work together

Johannesburg - Sporting bodies SASCOC and SAFA will work closely together to foster a better relationship, it was announced in a statement on Monday.

The SA Football Association and the SA Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee held a meeting on Monday to discuss a number of issues.

The topics discussed at the meeting included coaching academies, high performance, provincial sport confederations and how SAFA fits into the SASCOC strategy on each.

"I am happy that the meeting has been very fruitful and the fact that we are going to drive the sports agenda in collaboration with SAFA," said SASCOC president Gideon Sam.

SAFA said their under-23 team was in a strong position, but the release of players by agents and clubs had been hampering the progress of the national team.

"SAFA presented an update on their finances to the meeting by producing the financial report for the present year, which will be further discussed at the federation’s AGM," said SASCOC in the statement.

Both SAFA and SASCOC decided frequent meetings between the bodies would be held in the future to gauge progress on important issues.
