Coach praises Prinsloo

Kimberley - Griquas coach Hawies Fourie praised fullback Gouws Prinsloo for another match winning performance after contributing 26 points in their 31-27 Currie Cup win over the Pumas on Saturday.

Prinsloo kicked a total of eight penalties and a conversion to help Griquas to their second win so far.

The performance was a repeat of his heroics in the 21-18 victory against the Sharks last week.

"Gouws once again showed what a big influence a good kicker has on the outcome of a game. He kicked really well and we are very proud to have him in our setup," Fourie said.

Griquas' next assignment is against log leading Western Province at Newlands where Fourie would be looking for some major improvements.

"We still aren't happy with our own lineouts. We gave away to much possession on our own throws.

"We also need to be better in our counter attacks. We had a couple of turnovers against the Pumas, but we couldn't capitalise on them."

Momentum

The momentum gained from their two consecutive victories puts them in good stead to spring a surprise against away Province, he said.

"We travelled to Cape Town last year and only came up short by six points. We have some good momentum and we will want to build on that."

The Pumas dropped down to third on the points log after walking away with a single point from the match.

Coach Jimmy Stonehouse said it was back to the drawing board before they take on the Golden Lions.

"We gave away to many penalties and Griquas capitalised on it. We will regroup this week and focus on the Lions. It is going to be a big challenge facing them at home."
