Kings expect Lions clash to go ahead

Cape Town - The Eastern Province Kings are expecting their Currie Cup match against the Golden Lions in Johannesburg on Saturday to go ahead.

A story in Die Burger on Thursday had cast doubt over the fixture, reporting that the Kings players would be within their rights not to take to the field at Ellis Park if they had not been paid beforehand.

An earlier payment dispute had disrupted the Kings’ pre-Currie Cup preparations before the squad was reportedly paid in full at the beginning of August, but this month appears to have brought renewed financial problems.

When contacted by Sport24, the Kings confirmed that they would be releasing a statement on the matter later on Thursday afternoon - and confirmed they expected the match against the Lions to go ahead.

Kick off on Saturday is at 19:10 and the Kings go into the match having lost all four of their Currie Cup matches this season.
