Cape Town - Western Province have been boosted by the return of loosehead prop Steven Kitshoff as they prepare to face Griquas in a Currie Cup clash at Newlands on Saturday.
Kitshoff has been in camp with the Springboks but failed to make the final 31-man squad for the Rugby World Cup and has therefore been released for Currie Cup duty.
The 23-year-old will be available for WP until after the Currie Cup, before heading to France to play for Top 14 club, Bordeaux.
WP coach John Dobson said he would be looking to give Kitshoff some game time.
“It would’ve been a tough one for Kitsie not selecting him after the disappointment of not making the World Cup squad. It’s also tough on Ali Vermaak, but Steven is a proven performer and he’s very hungry to play again,” Dobson told the WP Rugby website.
WP will be eager to get back to winning ways, following back-to-back defeats to the Blue Bulls (47-29, Pretoria) and Free State Cheetahs (28-21, Bloemfontein).
“We’ve played three of our four games thus far away from home - including two in a row. It’s always great to be back at Newlands and we would love to reward our die-hard fans with a victory at home,” continued Dobson.
Kick-off for Saturday’s clash at Newlands in scheduled for 17:05.
