Nelspruit - Pumas lock Giant Mtyanda says the team has learnt a lot from the past season.
The men from Nelspruit are already hard at work as they're busy with their off-season schedule.
Their focus will be on improving on their performances displayed in 2014.
The Pumas blew hot and cold in the Currie Cup as they won four of their opening five games, before a five-match losing streak saw them lose out on a semi-final place.
Mtyanda said the team is focused on a stronger domestic run next season.
"We started off very well and played our way into a playoff position on the log," Mtyanda told MyPlayers.co.za. "However, we couldn't carry that momentum and good form into the final league rounds, which mattered most. The coach (Jimmy Stonehouse) emphasised the fact that we let the opportunity to play in the semis slip from our grasps.
"Despite the disappointments, the players realise the lessons learned. During off-season training, we're focused on conditioning and strengthening going into 2015. We want to work hard to ensure we do much better."
Mtyanda has already set his goals for next season.
"I want to help the Pumas achieve a successful Currie Cup campaign," he said. "Personally, I hope to get an opportunity to play some Super Rugby. I've been working hard on my game, and I believe I can make an impact at that level. I just need the opportunity to prove myself."
Before that, Mtyanda will have time to relax off the field during the Christmas break. The 28-year-old will head home to Port Elizabeth, where he will reconnect with family and friends.
"I plan to head home and to spend some quality time with my family and friends," said Mtyanda. "It will be great just to chill and catch up with loved ones.
"I'm definitely looking forward to Christmas lunch. Like every other family, we go all out with the food. I'm usually in charge of the meat. That's my speciality."
