Stonehouse ponders Japan offer

Cape Town - Pumas coach Jimmy Stonehouse is pondering his future after a receiving an offer to coach in Japan.

According to Netwerk24, Stonehouse has until next Friday to decide if he will accept an offer to coach the Toshiba Brave Lupus.

Should he decide to leave, he would be lost for South African rugby until the middle part of 2017.

It was reportedearlier this month that Stonehouse was in Japan to hold discussions with Toshiba's rugby bosses. At the time, Stonehouse said he was there to visit a friend, Australian Joe Barakat, who is Toshiba's forwards coach. Barakat asked Stonehouse to conduct a training camp for the team in Kagoshima, with Stonehouse insisting it's was not a permanent venture.

But Stonehouse has now confirmed that he received an offer to coach there. "It's a good offer and I'm definitely considering it. But it would be a very tough decision. The Pumas have been very good to me these last few years," he said.

Stonehouse has impressed in his time at the Pumas, helping them win the 2013 Currie Cup First Division as well as gain promotion for this year's event, in which the Pumas finished sixth overall, bagging four wins from their 10 games.

Stonehouse was also named South African rugby's Coach of the Year in 2013.
