Sharks' Deysel off to Japan

Durban - Cell C Sharks loose-forward Jean Deysel will depart the franchise at the end of the Vodacom Super Rugby season to join Japanese top league club, Toyota Verblitz, on a two-year deal.

Having made his debut in 2007, the 29-year-old has been capped an impressive 117 times for the Sharks and is an integral part of a team that he has played in for close-on eight years now.

His appointment as one of three vice-captains for the 2014 season highlighted the important role that he plays within the team environment and his fearlessness, leadership and dedication will be sorely missed.

Commenting on his departure, Sharks CEO, John Smit said: “Jean will always be regarded as a team man who gave 110% whether in training or during a match. He has been a loyal servant of Sharks rugby and will be missed.

"His departure is a huge loss to The Sharks, but we respect his decision and wish him and his family the very best in Japan."

Deysel added: "The decision to leave the Sharks, a franchise which means the world to me, has been one of my toughest decisions yet. I have learnt so much from this place and I am eternally grateful to this franchise for their belief, support and guidance over the years.

"Moving abroad presents a new opportunity for my family and I to experience a new culture and way of life. The memories of this franchise and most importantly the friendships I have made along the way will remain with me forever."
