Trinh-Duc back training

Montpellier - France flyhalf Francois Trinh-Duc returned to light training on Tuesday for the first time since surgery last October, his Top 14 club Montpellier said.

The 28-year-old required an operation after breaking his right tibia, which ruled him out of France's November Tests against Fiji, Australia and Argentina.

Trinh-Duc missed out on the France squad for last year's tour of Australia, but had been expected to return for the autumn Tests after he was called up to a three-day pre-Test training camp.

Montpellier's backs coach Stephane Glas said: "He resumed quietly for 15 minutes..., he'll do the same again on Thursday.

"No date for his return has been set, I'm not putting any pressure on him."

In his absence, Montpellier went on a downward spiral with seven consecutive defeats in all competitions.

The poor run led to coach Fabien Galthie being suspended from his job in December, with South Africa's 2007 World Cup winning coach Jake White brought in as a consultant to take over the reins.

Under White's guidance Montpellier, eighth in the Top 14, have beaten French and European champions Toulon and Toulouse but lost a French Top 14 clash at Oyonnax and a European Champions Cup tie at Glasgow.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
