Stransky: Meyer too conservative

Cape Town - Joel Stransky believes that Heyneke Meyer could have made more changes for Wednesday's World Cup Pool B clash against the USA in London.

The Springbok coach made just two changes from his starting lineup that beat Scotland 34-16 this past weekend, and Stransky has questioned the decision against a USA side that are not expected to challenge the Boks.

"For me, maybe a little conservative," Stransky said via a video he posted to his Twitter account.

"I thought he could have made more changes. I thought certainly Trevor Nyakane could have had some more game time, I thought Siya Kolisi might have been given a start... Willem Alberts probably needs game time if he is to become a force in the knockouts."

While Stransky said the decision to opt for continuity in the backline did make sense, he had doubts over Meyer's belief in his squad.

"All together it just, for me, smells that Heyneke doesn’t quite have faith across the board in the whole squad to continue the physicality, to continue the speed of play," said Stransky.

"Nonetheless, it’s a formidable Springbok outfit."

Kick-off on Wednesday is at 17:45 9SA time).
