Bafana coast past Mauritius

Cape Town - Goals from Mandla Masango and Wandisile Letlabika handed Bafana Bafana a 2-0 win over Mauritius in their second leg CHAN qualifier to advance to the next round with a 5-0 aggregate score.

Bafana were not as impressive as the first leg match, but Shakes Mashaba’s side looked the better team in the opening exchanges of the match.

Bafana Bafana managed to produce a number of goals scoring chances, but were let down by poor finishing while Mauritius goalkeeper, Jean Louis, made a few good saves to keep his side in the match.

The match headed to the half time break at goalless.

The second was pretty the same as Bafana Bafana dominated play, but without any goals.

William Twala went close on the hour mark, but his shot hit the crossbar.

With South Africa struggling for goals, Mashaba reacted by taking off the star of the first round match, Siphelele Ntshangase, who made way for Ndumiso Mabena.

Thami Gabuza had a great chance to put South Africa ahead but Louis made another good save for the match to remain at goalless.

Gabuza was later taken off after a frustrating time in front of goals.

Bafana Bafana finally broke the deadlock as a well taken free kick by Mandla Masango took a deflection off the Mauritius defenders on its way into the back of the net for the opening goal of the match.

Bloemfontein Celtic defender, Letlabika added the second goal in the 84th minute as South Africa comfortably won 2-0 to book a place in the next round of the competition.

Bafana Bafana will now go and play Angola in the next round of the competition, who knocked out Swaziland 4-2 on aggregate.
