Manchester United required a late Daley Blind strike to help salvage a 2-2 draw against West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns in English Premiership action on Monday.

The home side got off to a rollicking start and duly took the lead through England youth international Saido Berahino. The game was played at a frantic pace, helped by the lack of cohesion in the midfield from the visitors as West Brom continued to counter attack sharply. Substitute Marouane Fellaini equalised for the Red Devils before Berahino took advantage of poor defending from United to retake the lead.

Blind's fine effort in the 87th minute set up a tense finish at The Hawthorns but neither side could find the winner.

Player ratings: Manchester United

1. David De Gea - 5

Could do nothing about either of the goals but the Spanish goalkeeper must be incredibly frustrated with the "defence" in front of him.

2. Rafael - 5

Posed an attacking threat going forward but must remember that his primary job is to defend. Will share the blame for the second goal with Phil Jones.

3. Luke Shaw - 3

I never made much of his fitness issues until last night. He was sluggish and slow to help  Angel Di Maria attack and missed the headed clearance in the buildup to the first goal.

4. Phil Jones - 5

Did a "David Luiz" for the second goal when he wondered into midfield leaving a gaping hole behind him for Berahino to expose but otherwise was decent.

5. Marcos Rojo - 5

Tentative start from the Argentine when the Baggies were pushing the tempo but made some fine one on one tackles as the game progressed.

6. Ander Herrera - 5

Thought the pitch was a "slip and slide" as he kept losing his footing but played alright considering his rib injury is still bothering him. Got the "shepherd's hook" from LVG at half time.

7. Adnan Januzaj - 3

The biggest threat to breaking down his own team's attack on the night. A forgettable experience for the Belgian youngster.

8. Daley Blind - 7

Arguably United's best player on the night, he continues to grow with confidence and will no doubt be one of the first names on the team sheet for Sunday's match against Chelsea.

9. Juan Mata - 3.5

Offered little to nothing in both attack and defence and wasted a potential scoring chance with a woeful free-kick in the first half.

10. Angel Di Maria - 7

Another brilliant performance from the Argentine but was forced off with a thigh strain when his team needed him most.

11. Robin Van Persie - 3.5

Just one meaningful shot on the evening and probably still too selfish (when he is off form). Not sure what inspiration the Dutch provided as captain on the evening.

Substitutes:

12. Marouane Fellaini - 7

Took his chance to impress the coaching staff with both feet and scored his first United goal. He made a vital impact on the game.

13. Ashley Young - 3.5

What is the opposite of an impact player? Ashley Young!

14. Radamel Falcao - 6

Left out due to jet lag, Falcao proved a threat every time the ball was played to him but couldn't find space to get any decent strikes on goal.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
