Ramos close to new Real deal

Cape Town - Manchester United's bid to sign Sergio Ramos is set to end in defeat after reports emerged that the player will agree to a new contract with Real Madrid.

The Spanish international defender is set to put pen to paper on a new deal with Real Madrid, according to the Daily Mail.

The English newspaper reports that Ramos has decided to commit his future at Madrid beyond 2017 after a meeting with the club's president Florentino Perez in China.

Ramos, a World Cup winner with Spain in 2010, is Real Madrid's longest-serving player and has been handed the captaincy following the departure of long-serving goalkeeper Iker Casillas.

The Spanish giants are willingly to spend the 2015/16 season without goalkeeper target and Red Devil, David De Gea.

De Gea is out of contract at the end of the current season but Manchester United refused to sell the Spanish star without a star player joining the Old Trafford club in return.

New recruit Kiko Casilla and Keylor Navas will compete for the position of Real Madrid number one.
