Aces are raising the bar

Cape Town - Following their stunning 2-1 victory against Orlando Pirates on Tuesday night, Black Aces now feel they have the capacity to challenge for the Premiership title.

Goalkeeper Jackson Mabokgwane said there was absolutely no pressure on his team, as the expectations are not exceedingly high at this juncture and felt that this allowed the club to avoid any unnecessary distractions during the quest to achieve success in the South African top flight.

"We just play every game the same way. We don't plan for any team a special way because every game is three points," Mabokgwane told journalists this week.

"But the coach (Clive Barker) told us, 'If you win this game you're going to go up the log and challenge'. People said he was crazy, but we love the coach, he encourages us and we're happy to have him," added the Aces stopper.

"There's no pressure for us. We'll just keep doing what we're doing."

Black Aces have won three consecutive matches in the league this season and the last time they were defeated in the Premiership was in August. Mabokgwane felt that everybody involved deserved credit for that.

"A lot of guys are coming into the team - Valery Nahayo came in and did exceptionally well - and this was only my second game for the team (after an injury layoff), so we're starting to gel. It takes time but we'll start challenging soon."
