Baxter: Draw a fair result

Johannesburg - Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter felt the 0-0 draw against Bidvest Wits in an Absa Premiership match on Wednesday night was a fair result.

According to the soccerladuma website, the Amakhosi mentor admits at times he was lost for words because his side created numerous goal scoring chances and failed to take them.

“To be fair, I think it could have gone either way - on a good night we could have won the game with a couple of goals, on a bad night we could have lost it,” said Baxter.

“We are creating chances and not taking them - is it the pressure, is it rushing it, is it the technique, is it the pitch? I don’t know.”

Baxter, though, added that he thought it was a good display of football from both teams.

“It was a very tight game, a very competitive game, it was a very good game of football,” added Baxter.

“I think the crowd and the viewers at home saw a good advertisement for South African football.”

The result leaves Chiefs trailing league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns by five points, but with a game in hand.

Baxter admits he would have liked all three points, but he will take the one and says the pressure is still on the Brazilians to win their remaining league matches if they want to loft the title.

“We would have liked three points, but we will take the one because that one may be the difference between winning it (the title) and not winning it,” explained Baxter.

“We would have liked to have had the three to keep the pressure firmly on (Mamelodi) Sundowns), but it doesn’t matter, they have to win their games as well and if they do and have more points at the end of the season then I will be the first to congratulate them.”
