Baxter: One game at a time

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter insists he will not allow his side to get ahead of themselves as they prepare for their Telkom Knockout clash against Maritzburg United.

If form was anything to go by, Amakhosi would be handed the win before a ball was even kicked this weekend, with the Glamour Boys enjoying a 100 percent start to the new season, which includes seven straight Premiership wins and an MTN8 final success.

Chiefs dispatched the Team of Choice 1-0 in their most recent league outing, last weekend, but Baxter is refusing to get carried away with the results so far, especially when it comes to cup competition.

“We are totally not thinking about winning the cup.”

“We are looking at the next game (against Maritzburg) as a difficult tie and we hope we will proceed to the next round. That’s all what is in our minds, preparing well and that’s what we can control," the Amakhosi boss said.

“To have one eye on now and one on the future means you are not focused."

He added: “The last game they played very deep. They made it difficult for us to pick our way through.”

Kick-off is on Saturday, October 4 at 20:15.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
