“Self-discipline, you know, respecting the brand [and], respecting your teammates. I never did that as a professional footballer,” said the 34-year-old.

In an exclusive interview with News24 LIVE, the former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder suddenly retired from all forms of soccer and took on ambassadorial roles at SuperSport United and the inaugural Multichoice Diski Challenge.

‘Shuffle’, as he is affectionately known, believes that he has a role to play in opening up with the younger players in the Diski Challenge about his past mistakes and show them the correct path career wise.

“I’ve learned that you really need to be honest to [with] yourself if you want to achieve something. The more you become a star; everyone wants a piece of you.”

“So, I’ve learned that in life you’ll never succeed without self-discipline.”
