Captaincy is no easy job - Oupa

Cape Town - Orlando Pirates midfielder Oupa 'Ace' Manyisa says that being captain of a club like Orlando Pirates carries great responsibility.

Manyisa was handed the armband after the death of goalkeeper and former Bucs skipper Senzo Meyiwa.

"Look, this is obviously not an easy task," the Bafana Bafana playmaker told the club's official website.

"To be captain is hard enough but to be captain of a great institution like Orlando Pirates is an even greater responsibility. It's taken me some time to adjust but I think I'm beginning to get used to it.

"We have a lot of leaders in the team which makes my job easier because we all get along and there is a good understanding of where we want the team to be.

"Lucky Lekgwathi remains the club captain, he is always there for me and he helps me a lot at training," Manyisa added.

Manyisa played in 51 of Pirates’ 53 matches last season, and has been one of the league’s most consistent performers over the last few years.

While some players may worry about fatigue, Manyisa says he is thrilled just to be doing what he loves most every week.

"Playing matches is what we live for as players. I would rather be on the field than to idle and not play at all," the 26-year-old said.

"In recent weeks we have been playing a match every three days; I know this may look like a lot but we are professional players and football is our job."
