Johannesburg - Mandla Masango's first-half goal secured a 1-0 win for Kaizer Chiefs over Ajax Cape Town in the Absa Premiership on Wednesday evening.
As it happened: Kaizer Chiefs v Ajax CT
The win gets the Amakhosi back on track after their unbeaten run in the league came to an end at SuperSport United last month.
Ajax never got going as they continue their struggles away from home. The defeat sees the Urban Warriors slip to sixth on the log standings.
Chiefs looked to stamp their authority and did just that with 14 minutes on the clock. A swift move ended with Masango firing the loose ball into the back of the net after Anssi Jaakkola spilled George Lebese's initial effort.
The goal sparked Ajax to life. The visitors, who were in search of their first league win against Chiefs away from home since 2007, unleashed a succession of efforts from range.
Khune, though, was hardly tested, with Toriq Losber, Franklin Cale and Erwin Isaacs all seeing their attempts at goal fly high or wide.
Neither keeper was actually tested throughout the opening stanza, with Chiefs ending the half the strongest of the two teams.
Jaakkola was forced into a smart save to deny George Maluleka a goal against his former club seven minutes after the break. The Chiefs midfielder showed quick feet before striking at goal, but the Finnish keeper was up to the task.
De Sa introduced Nathan Paulse in the 67th minute and the lanky forward had the desired impact, forcing Khune into a good save as the game started to open up.
This created the opportunity for Chiefs to hit the Urban Warriors on the counter, with Lebese and then Maluleka seeing their efforts flash wide of Ajax's goal.
Rivaldo Coetzee saw his spectacular effort fly wide with seven minutes remaining as Ajax ended the game with a flourish.
Despite their efforts they failed to find the equalizer, as Chiefs got back to winning ways after their 19-game unbeaten run came to an end last month.
