Cape Town - Siyabonga Nhlapo was converted into a right-back says Bidvest Wits coach, Gavin Hunt.

According to KickOff, Hunt said he was the reason Nhlapho moved from being a midfielder to a defender.

"When Siya (Siyabonga Nhlapho) came here he was a midfielder, and I said to him, ‘You can't play as a midfielder in South Africa’," said Hunt.

“He asked ‘Why?’ and I told him, ‘Siya, you are not good enough to play as a midfielder in South Africa’.

“He asked me where he should play, and I told him that he should play as a right back.”

Hunt reveals that he promised Nhlapho that he would turn him into a right-back that can vie for a place in the Bafana Bafana squad and so far the former SuperSport United coach has kept his word.

Meanwhile, University of Pretoria will hope to end Bidvest Wits’ run of form in the Absa Premiership when the teams meet at Tuks Stadium.

Kick-off at 15:30 on Sunday, December 21.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
