Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs midfielder George Lebese, who was born and raised in Mamelodi (the heartbeat of Sundowns’ fanbase), admitted he hasn’t been home for two weeks ahead of his side’s clash against the reigning PSL champions on Saturday.
"This is a really important fixture just like any other big match that we have had to play,” Lebese told KickOff.com website.
Despite going into the game with an 11-point cushion at the top of the table, Lebese admits “[they] are not comfortable about anything going into this match.”
"Yes, we are top but that means nothing for now because what matters is being there at the end.
“We also know what happened last season when they came here and beat us at home.”
“I have been avoiding going home for the past two weeks because most people in ‘Mams’ are Sundowns fans,” he says.
“If I had gone home they would have been all over my face telling me this and that about Sundowns and I don’t want that. So I have reserved my next visit home for after the game on Saturday and I know how good it will feel if we beat them because I will be smiling all over the place.
“Being a boy from ‘Mams’ means I even have family members who are staunch Sundowns fans like my father. Though I haven’t been home this week, we have been speaking on the phone like we always do but we have avoided the subject of this game because he respects the fact that I am on the other side of the fence.
“I know his heart is with Sundowns and I accept that but he still loves and supports me at the same time and in the same way that everyone else in the family stands with me.
“I will talk football again with my dad after the game on Saturday,” he chuckles.
